"Little drops of water make a mighty ocean". While on vacations to Africa we should not just be thinking about ourselves and our own enjoyment. We should also not be of the opinion that what one can do is too small to help an entire town or city. Small gestures of charity or gifts of food and medicine will go a long way in ensuring that your vacation to Africa is fruitful and satisfactory. You will return from vacation to Africa feeling happy and contented that you have made a difference to one small community or one small town.
A visit to some of the town in Africa will show you the amount of poverty and suffering people there are going through, be it physical mental or emotional. African people have always suffered hardships and poverty, diseases and hunger. Ethiopia and Ghana are among some of the worst off towns were Christian missionaries have visited time and again and tried to make a difference to the lives of people there in some way either big or small. One should not think that your means are too small or money too inadequate and that you cannot touch the hearts of downtrodden and oppressed, sick and hungry, orphan and destitute.
A number of Christian NGO's, churches and charitable institutes do conduct vacations or missions of charity to the most remote and badly affected town and villages of Africa. These vacations are designed with a reason to pause for a cause and are at subsidized rates for likeminded people who come forward to ensure that they go to Africa with one purpose in mind and that is to be charitable and compassionate while at the same time one can enjoy a vacation in a different sort of way.
Medical missions run by Christian institutes also conduct programs where one can register for such vacations where members of medical missions assist the needy and sick. They are given medicines, medical assistance and treatment, dental and optical guidance and advice on sanitation and diet. Free distribution of food is undertaken by charitable institutes and various Christian churches from around the world.
'It is better to give than to receive' is what Christian teaching advocate. Give to others and God will give to you. You will receive full measure. This is what Christian churches teach its followers. Whether Methodist, Anglican, Baptist, Evangelical or Presbyterian Church all have the same teaching and instill lessons on its parishioners that we should think of serving those less fortunate than us at all stages of our lives. Whether at home or on vacation one must not forget these teachings and sermons that we have grown up hearing. Of course it is not all preaching and no practice. Most Christian churches have adopted certain villages and small town in Africa where regular donations are sent, visits are conducted and items of food, clothing and even shelter are distributed to needy.
Praying with the people of poor African towns and villages also helps them in non materialistic ways. They are all in need of prayers and understanding and sitting down with them while on vacation, praying and spreading the word of God will give them hope for the future. Christian messages are full of hope and instill a sense of wellbeing in minds of the poor and neglected. Giving them an assurance that someone cares and understands what they are going through will ensure that your vacation to Africa is enjoyable, fruitful and meaningful not only to you but to those whose lives you have changed by your visit and donations.
